Why you must presell

The most important thing you can do to increase your affiliate commissions is to presell properly.

Before we begin, we need to first define what preselling is. Preselling is both an art and a science. The goal is to get your reader prepped to make a purchase. Then when they’re ready, refer them to the product website so they can buy it. And when it’s done correctly, they don’t know it’s happening.

Basically, you give them some content. And then refer them to the product website. In a second we’ll talk about how to do actually it. Before we get into that, you should understand what’s in it for you. Just a few of the reasons you want to presell.

  • It builds trust – Readers who trust you are more likely to click your links. Which obviously means you’ll make more sales.
  • Preselling is disarming – Nobody likes to be sold something. By not doing that to them, your reader is less defensive. And in turn they read to understand what you’re saying. So your content get absorbed.
  • It preps them to buy – Now they’re open to hearing what you’re telling them. And in turn, they’re open to other messages, as well. Like the info on product sales page you’ve linked to. And being open to the information there means they are much more likely to buy.
  • It increases your sales – Now your reader arrives at the sales page in a buying mood. With a feeling of trust and openness. The only possible result is more sales!
  • It boosts customer loyalty – Your referral now feels like they decided to buy. Versus being pitched or convinced. So they are happier with their purchase.
  • Your profits go up – Satisfied customers are less like to refund. And that translates to more commission staying in your affiliate business.

The need to presell is clear. You increase your profits. Your customers are happier. Everybody wins!

OK, so how do you do it?

You’ve learned the importance of preselling. So, hopefully you’ve decided to start preselling. So, let’s talk about how to make it work. Remember, there are two components – art and science.

Part 1 – The art of it

First, you have to gain the trust of your reader, so they let their guard down. And the only method of doing this is to give exceptional value to your readers. Now, providing enough info to be useful, but still making them want more – that’s the art of it. The idea is that they want more and the sales page you send them to gives them more. And since they’re more open, they are more likely to make a purchase.

It’s also a science

There are also several key elements that need to be included.

The first is how you present the information. You’ve got to map out your strategy before you start writing. Your end goal is to make a sale of the product you’re preselling. You use the information to do this in one of two ways. The first method is to provide enough info to get them started, but not enough to finish. The other method is to explain all the details and expose how difficult it is to do what you’re explaining. Either way, the product sales page solves the problem.

Next, you have to use “convert linking” methods. Instead, you use a direct link to the product website. This increases your clicks. But how will you earn affiliate commissions if you don’t use your affiliate link? There’s a trick to make this work… You “pre-cookie” your reader before sending them to the sales page.

The next trick is to hyperlink specific words and phrases inside the content of the article you’re providing. People are used to clicking on hyperlinked words to get information they’re looking for. Plus, if you link on relevant words, it only makes sense to click on there.

What you have now is a super powerful system for affiliate marketing success.

OK, here’s the not-so-good news:

It’s extremely difficult to do this correctly. Let’s talk about everything required to put this plan into action: Great content. First and foremost, you have to be able to write a great article that provides valuable information. Which means you need to be both knowledgable on the subject and capable of writing a high-quality article. Strategic writing. First, you have to give good information. You also have to present the info in a way that provides real value. And somehow also make them want to learn more. The other approach is to reveal a self-evident problem through the information.

Product selection. After that you have to figure out which products you want to promote. If you can manage to get the article written well. All your efforts are wasted if you send your reader to the wrong sales letter.

The technical know-how One of the keys to this system is using “covert cookies” for the tracking. This is actually pretty simple – just embed a 1 pixel X 1 pixel image and set your affiliate link as the “source” of the image. (But if you mess it up, your referrals won’t be tracked.)
